Domingo Perez information: Roughly 30mins drive north of Granada, some 45mins drive from Granada airport. Only 15mins drive north of Iznalloz and approx 35mins south of Jaén.
The village has less than 2000 inhabitants. Rural farming community. At present there are only 2 all year round English families living in the village.
There are 2 discos, 8 bars, 2 hairdressers, junior and infant school, all types of professionals such as painters, builders, plumbers, electricians, kitchen and door fitters, glaziers, builders merchant supplier, on the outskirts there is the villages own olive oil refinery and bottling plant, 2 kiddies parks, a Caja Rural bank and cash machine, various knick knack shops, ice-cream and sweet shop, tabacconists, fishmongers, three bakers who deliver daily door to door, 2 supermarkets who also do deliveries, gas bottles are delivered door to door twice weekly, Wednesday morning open air market, dial up free internet room, library, old folks day room, womens group, free afternoon adult education group, sports fields and football ground, less then 5mins drive to the nearest open air swimming pool and restaurant. There are plans on the outskirts of the village on the old football grounds to build log cabins for rural tourism. Excellent coverage for satellite tv, no broadband at present but plans are on the drawing board at the village council to fetch it in, at present only dial-up is available, only MOVISTAR mobile phone coverage in the village.
Bus routes to both Granada and Iznalloz from the village. Great for commuting being less than 5mins from the main motorway.
Village fiesta is usually the last week in July and last four days, live bands, dancing, funfair and rides for the kids, as well as procession of the Virgen etc. The 15th of May is San Isidro where the entire village usually go up to the old football grounds and have all day barbeque, later on in the evening there is a live band and all day bar. Literally all summer there are fiestas in the surrounding villages and towns.
Religious village, mostly Roman Catholic, the village take great pride in the newly renovated church. This is a village that has the get up and go to do great things, three years ago the church was in a bad state of repair and charity functions and goodwill donations etc from all the villagers have paid for the complete restoration of the church.
During the school holidays there are usually workshops for the kiddies run by a nuns group to keep the kids occupied, the president of the pensioners group also puts together day trips at extremely reasonable prices to the coast, swimming pools, Torremolinos, Gibraltor etc.
In the surrounding areas, you have the Piñar Window caves that you can visit, the Iznalloz water caves will soon be opening to the public. If you like walking then you can literally walk everywhere so long as you don´t cross any fenced in land, hunting areas, there is a troglodyte village some 45mins drive away where you can visit cave houses, markets here there and everywhere.
Coastal wise, it is merely an hour and a half drive on the motorway to Almeria and Malaga, the Motril coast is barely an hours drive away.
A new golf course has recently opened approx 20 minutes drive away and the Sierra Nevada Ski slopes are just over an hours drive away.
