Christmas Festivities in Spain and Álora - The first night of the festivities is Christmas Eve (Nochebuena), when families get together in the evening to enjoy a fantastic dinner, one of the most important of the year, before giving presents and going to church or singing carols around the Christmas Tree.
Christmas Day (Navidad) is a holiday day spent with the family, going to church and maybe out to lunch, followed by a few days of visiting family and friends.
New Years Eve is a big night in Spain with lots of parties, festivities and fireworks. It is the tradition at 12 midnight to eat 12 grapes, one for every stroke of the clock to bring good luck for the New Year.
January 6th Epiphany, Los Reyes (Three Kings Day) - the day the Three Kings arrived in Bethlehem. Before this date Spanish children write to the Three Kings with their gift wishes. The festival begins in the evening of 5th January with a parade through the town by the Three Kings, where sweets are distributed from floats by the Kings to the crowds of children and adults lining the streets.
In Álora on the evening of the 5th January at about 10 pm, all the children go with their parents to the train station where their presents arrive on a train bearing the Three Kings, who distribute the presents to the children.
Malaga C.F. – Malaga 1 - Levante 0. A win at last for Malaga. Relief as Amoroso scored Malaga's goal and that was enough for them to win the game. This result takes Malaga out of the relegation zone.
Prices Still Rising and No Signs of Slowdown - in spite of predictions from the Spanish Housing Ministry stating that the Housing market will start to slow down and house price inflation would drop, house prices in Spain have continued to rise.
According to their own figures, prices in Spain rose by 17.1% during the third quarter of 2004 alone, this is an increase in the rate of inflation of 0.65% in comparison to the same period in 2003.
Andalucia was third in inflation increase by province, with a rise of 20.05%, while Murcia and Cataluña had the highest increases, with 25.39% and 20.34%, respectively.
MTV Signs Agreement with Loudeye for Spain - It will launch 2 new online music stores powered by Loudeye's OD2 services. Currently MTV digital music has stores serving the UK, France,Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands. Through the new agreement, MTV will launch new music stores in Spain and Italy. Through Loudeye's OD2 services, MTV will launch custom-branded stores that will feature access to high quality legal music downloads.
They will also feature localized content specific to each country. MTV is at the forefront of key music markets across Europe.
World's Tallest Building and Largest Mall Announced - December 14, 2004 - The construction of what will become the world's tallest building - the Burj Tower in Dubai - will commence in January, 2005, with plans for the 800 metre tall, 160 floor skyscraper to be completed by 2008. The building will also contain residential, commercial, hotel and entertainment facilities, including the largest shopping mall in the world. Located on Sheikh Zayed Road, the complex will contain a city within a city - a planned Old Town with intimate streets and architectural detail to create a special ambience with the mystery of yesterdays Arabia, in what is expected to be the centrepiece of the Gulf region's most prestigious urban development.
